7 - The Sea Cucumber - The sea cucumber takes its name from the vegetable it resembles and many regions cultivate it as food. It has a long spherical body, rounded at the ends, with an endoskeleton just below its skin. They can be found deep on the ocean floor at depths greater than 5 miles. They travel in dense herds where over 1,000 can be found per square yard, and at deeper depths these herds make up 90% of the total ocean biomass at depth. They are scavengers and often feed on debris, plankton, and other organic matter and can grow up to a 10 feet long. Some position themselves in currents and catch food as it is carried by.\r
