Fires continue to rip through the Amazon rainforest.
Reuters, citing a senior scientist at Brazil's National Space Research Institute on Wednesday, reported that once data are finalized, it would show that Amazon fires in August were the worst in 10 years.
It said the number of fires in August will likely show an increase by 1 to 2 percent compared to the same month last year, when around 31-thousand fires were reported.
That would mean the worst spate of fires in the Amazon region for the month of August since 2010.
