Description :
California state officials cautioned people who haven’t been vaccinated against measles to avoid visiting the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim.
A total of 59 cases of measles have been confirmed in California. Forty-two have been linked to an outbreak that began at Disneyland in late December, according to a statement by the California Department of Public Health.
Measles is an airborne disease caused by a virus in the paramyxovirus family. The virus remains active in the air for up to two hours, according to the WHO.
The first symptoms of a measles infection typically include a fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes. A rash erupts on the face and upper neck after several days. It spreads over the rest of the body in about three days, according to the WHO.
Eight additional measles cases have been confirmed in Utah, Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Mexico.
