A southeastern cold snap brought torrential rain to Hobart, Tasmania, on May 11. Flash flooding transformed areas of the CBD into fast-flowing rivers and left many cars, homes and businesses damaged.
Local media reported vehicles were swept away, more than 13,000 homes were without power and many schools were closed. The University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay Campus was shut down after power was cut and several buildings flooded.
Unseasonably cold and wet weather conditions in southeast Australia were a result to an onset of cold air blowing in form Antarctica, 9 News reported. The cold snap had impacted Victoria, Tasmania, NSW, ACT and southeast South Australia.
A video, taken by Bernard Mason on Thursday night, shows car parks and vehicles around Hobart partially submerged in water.
Emergency crews worked to clear the roads and assist those who have been hit by the storm on Friday. ABC reported a n
