A new report has revealed that four out of five purchases in the country are paid with a credit or debit card, or electronically.
Swedish citizens use bank cards daily, and individually average 260 transactions a year.
Without physical money, cash-handling costs would decrease, while consumer and company security would rise.
It's predicted that Sweden could be completely free of paper bills and coins by 2030.
Support for the change has come from banks and retailers. Street vendors have even begun accepting card payments.
