Samantha had covered her mother with a brightly colored crocheted afghan and sat beside her until the police returned to say their goodbyes. Rosie spoke with Officer Parker out on the front porch with the door closed so as not to disturb Anne. The conversation was held with a thin veil of professional politeness, and was short, terse, and filled with tension. Parker gave the clearance for Anne to leave at will, but threatened Rosie about hiding any evidence connected with the murders at the High Star Ranch.
